Playa Del Carmen is a hidden gem on the Caribbean coast of Eastern Mexico. It is a resort community in a small Mexican village with white sandy beaches and turquoise seas. Jacques Cousteau called these waters here "the clearest and bluest in the world." Playa del Carmen is inhabited and visited by mostly Europeans, and because of that it has a very international culture. Playa is only 45 minutes from Cancun, but the town is completely different. Playa has the inherent charm of its old days as a Mexican village combined with the chic and trendy hot spots that people come from around the world to indulge in. The town of Playa has a limit on building heights, 3-4 stories and most have grass hut roofing, and the charming cobblestone streets are lined with unique restaurants, boutiques, and incredible night life.
